Tax season is all year round –
Although most Americans will not have to worry about 2017 taxes until early 2018 when 2017 tax returns are due, self-employed individuals or anyone who must pay quarterly tax payments will want to plan ahead.
Every year, the IRS adjusts more than a number tax provisions for inflation. This is done to prevent “bracket creep.” This is when taxpayers are pushed into higher income tax brackets or have reduced credits or deductions due to inflation, rather than an increase in real income.
The following is a summary of the key changes for 2017:
- The standard deduction increases by $50 per person: The 2017 standard deduction is $12,700 for married couples filing a joint return, $6,350 for singles (married individuals filing separately) and $9,350 for heads of household.
